My first quilt!

I'm sorry, the photo here is sideways. But what you see here is my first quilt! It is crib-sized, and I made it for my friend who is about to become a first-time mommy. Last week I rather sporadically decided to take a stab at quilting, and I was quickly amazed at how simple (and fun!) it was. AND... when you have an abundance of scrap-fabric to work with, there is very little to purchase. Although I did have fun picking out the flannel backing... something about the snuggliness of brightly hued flannel, and thinking of dreaming babies wrapped in its warmth! My friend had her shower last Saturday, and I think she liked it :D Yay!

I'm hoping to make this a new hobby, as quilts fulfill my desire to make gifts that are both artsy yet functional. Who knows? :)

Great job!!! It is hardest to get those corners to line up and you did beautifully!! It all comes down to precise cutting and sewing that exact 1/4 inch. You know, the quilt committee always needs new quilters! Wait until you start strolling through Fabric Depot on SE Stark & 122nd. You'll die just looking at all the color/texture/design possibilities.

Sewing is an awesome way to fulfill that creative urge. I love it. I just wish I had more time for it. I've taken some sewing classes which have been an incredible experience (waking up that "mommy brain").

So excited you did this!

Katherine wants to take up quilting in Russia. It is a great hobby.
Ive made a few, but I am so impatient:)Something my mom always told me.
She was, by the way, a great seamstress!!

That is a very pretty quilt Katie! I loved (as did the dk) the quilts they were given as babies-they looked very similar to yours. Mike wore his out-it is in pieces...perhaps I need to make some new ones!
I love to sew too, must find time again!
Great job,Love to all, Aunt Helen

I am not very talented when it comes to sewing but i have made a few quilts. I love yours!!! I like my mom do not have a lot of patience and i am too much of a perfectionist (i need to just throw away my seam ripper). you should definitely get on the quilt committee at church! i am not on it, but would like to be :)

The bird and heart picture would make a lovely applique on a small quilt top :-)
