One of my favorite icons of the Mother of God and Christ.Belated Mother's Day Blessings to all of you amazing mamas!
Outside my window...
Same old same old... our dark, seemingly lamp-less street. It's a very quiet spring night.
I am thinking...
I am 38+ weeks pregnant.... not a whole lot else on my mind. *grin*
Thinking of my children and the gift of motherhood.
Looking forward to receiving some patterns in the mail (I just ordered them as my "Mother's Day" gift... plus, I had a PayPal gift card). I'm hoping they're not too far beyond my range of capabilities. I'm probably still considered a "beginning sewer", but maybe, by some stretches of the imagination, I can qualify as "intermediate." At least I'm bound to learn a new thing or two by using these patterns. From what I hear (here and here), the instructions are very well-written and clear. Nice!
Not QUITE sure what I'm expecting from myself.... I have no idea how soon I'll be "down" to my normal size. But I would like to put some nice clothing items together for special summer events (baptisms, weddings, etc.), and both of these items are nursing compatible. I'm envisioning the Parfait dress with a light cardigan. We'll see!
I am thankful for...
My Mom! Happy Mother's Day, Marmee! Great celebrations this week-- S.'s 2nd birthday was Tuesday, and my mom threw me a baby shower Thursday evening with many of my dearest friends.
From the learning rooms...
Um, I'm such a loser when it comes to this! Nothing neat or Montessorifiic going on around here.
I'm... LEARNING how to be patient with Baby Boy. Part of me hoped... okay... thought that I'd have had the baby by now. In fact, I have had several episodes over the past week where I totally thought I was in pre-labor. And then other days, nada. Nothing. Calmness. I would have been SOOOO embarrassed, though, if I'd have called the midwives all the way out here only to discover I was nowhere near "the real deal."
Two years ago, my S. was born May 4, even though her due date was May 25. So now it all feels like deja vu again... I'm pregnant, it's May, lalala.... and it's making me feel like I'm overdue, even though I'm totally not (my official due date this time around is May 20).
From the kitchen...
I got my act together this morning and threw some food into the crockpot for an evening meal with Job's mom for Mother's Day. Crockpot chicken parmesan (or a variation thereof), brown rice noodles and broccoli. The table is cleared, for the most part, but I still have to wash dishes. Hoped Hubby would read my mind and do the dishes for me, but I'll forgive 'im :) He worked hard making this day restful and pleasant for me (I didn't have to change any diapers!), and I ain't gonna push it.
I am wearing...
Some of Job's shorts and a "only-to-be-worn-in-the-last-two-weeks-of-pregnancy" floral maternity shirt. It's kinda from the 90s. It's kinda unflattering. But it's the only thing that fits that I haven't already worn a million times already. :D You know what I'm talking about... the kind of shirt that you ignore in a pile of maternity hand-me-downs and say, "Oh, I probably won't wear this..." and you shove it in your closet... only to discover it 25 weeks later, out of sheer desperation, and suddenly it's perfect. Or, at least good enough.
I am creating...
A watercolor portrait commission! Gotta get going on it....
I am going...
to Confession tomorrow! Always hard, but always good :)
I am reading...
"Baby Catcher" by Peggy Vincent
I am hoping...
to meet my new son sometime soon! But I'll wait until the time is right :)
I am hearing...
The hum of the computer monitor. The only sound in this house right now. (same as last time!)
Around the house...
Kitchen mess must be tended to. I have some cute artwork and stuff to hang over Baby's crib. This past week I did lots of prepping, aka "nesting"-- washed lots of new and wonderful baby clothes, blankets and we put the "boy" bedding on the crib. I even finished his baby quilt! Reorganized the girl's clothes for spring and summer. Officially moved S.'s clothes out of our room and into the drawer in V.'s room-- she's "out" of our room for good now (except once 5 am rolls around and she somehow meanders into our bed :D). This week I plan to maintain a fairly good level of cleanliness so that "IF" I go into labor, the midwife won't walk into a disaster zone of a home :)
One of my favorite things..
My sweet husband, Job! And his homemade, computer-print-out Mother's Day cards :D Love it. AND... Trader Joe's chocolate lava cakes.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Confession tomorrow (err...today, I guess...), midwife appt. on Tuesday, a pedicure with my sister sometime this week (thanks Marmee! what a great Mother's Day gift!), lots of thank you notes from birthdays and shower celebrations, maybe, oh maybe, a baby, a baby? Finish said watercolor. Plant some zucchini, pumpkins and sunflowers (hopefully... I have no idea "when" to do that in this neck of the woods). Return library books.
Here is a picture for thought I am sharing...
Happy Mother's Day! This picture was taken during a photo spree that Vasi did while we were visiting my brother-in-law's home (during my niece's birthday party). Here are Susy and I, hanging out in the backyard with their Yorki-poo :) I sort of let Vasi go crazy with the camera, and I was actually quite tickled and pleased with the outcome! In fact, that picture of me from my previous post was taken my V! I totally forgot to mention that. Good job, sweetie :)I love this photo, because I had no idea it was being taken, and it's very "Mary Cassatt"-like and candid, with little S. and I. I love that girl, my "big" two year old!

I love this Icon of the Theotokos as well! Wishing you well with the coming of your baby! Happy Mother's day!
Almost there !
Prayers for a speedy and safe delivery of your precious little one :-)
the patterns look great! I would love to be able to sew clothes for myself! I sort of limit to sewing for my girls, because well, they look home-made which is ok for the kids, but I feel dorky. Anyway - LOVE the skirt and the dress is awesome (although I think the side pockets would draw extra attention to my hips!) Take care - wishing you and your family a safe birth! -ok it is katherine - not leo - just too lazy to sign him out, sign myself in and then retype this! :-)
