Latest one

For a future football star...

(his parent's alma mater, above)

(sorry, sideways....)

This is the latest! It was for a little boy, whose parents are friends of the family. His dad is a huge football fan and former player, so I wanted to add that element to the quilt.

The ONLY thing I regret about the quilt is... I did NOT prewash the fabrics before I made the quilt. OOOYYY!!! WHYYYY???? I guess I got antsy to start and just couldn't be held back by such important, precautionary steps. So, after I completed it, I popped it into the washing machine so it would be nice and clean for the new baby. And it came out a pinkish and faded-looking. Some of the fabrics (ahem... the JoAnn's fabrics) were affected the most, while others surprisingly held up well. It was all of that red flannel used for the backing and border that caused all of the bleeding. Yikes. I felt really bad. My little, masculine football quilt-- PINK!

It could have been a lot worse. I learned a big lesson (pre wash... ALWAYS!). The gift was given and accepted with grace and enthusiasm, so I'm happy.

Next up? Christmas gifts!!! Seriously, I'd really like to try and make most of my Christmas presents this year. Ideally, before December... but I am not sure that'll happen. It'd be nice to get all of the gifts made/ bought BEFORE the Nativity fast begins, or at least the beginning of December, so that I can focus on the true meaning of the season. I'd really like to make things at home to avoid shopping... I can barely eek out a trip the grocery store once, twice a week; the idea of taking my kids to the mall for lots of overpriced sweaters that won't fit and will be returned does not appeal to me in the slightest.

So: family; any requests? Handmade or store bought?

I wish I could post my gift creations, but since my family reads here, I won't be able to. If you want to hold me accountable and are interested in seeing my completed TOP SECRET HOLIDAY PROJECTS, just shoot me an e-mail (xktussing -at- yahoo -dot- com).

Oh- I'm so sorry that happened!!
Ugh- how frustrating! Well pink is becoming a little more acceptable in male attire, so it shouldn't harm the young baby boy!!

I've got a couple of ideas for you- as far as future projects.......
I'll let you know soon.

love

ack! sorry about the color bleed - so frustrating! I get excited too and tend to skip steps - only to regret it later. I am working on an embroidery proect and am a little worried the floss will bleed when washed . . . I am hoping to have a "handmade holiday", or even "experience" gifts (as in tickets to concert, or something) as opposed to more things, as well! baby is easy, older kids a little more difficult, but adults tough to make for - I guess male adults! I would love to share project ideas! I will email you!

Both of the quilts are so adorable. But I mainly wanted to tell you that I LOVE your new header. That is so sweet!

I love your header too! It inspires me to get out the art stuff.
I also think your quilts are just great!
I hear you on the red - that is something I would have done (have already learned the hard way), however, I really prefer not to prewash because if you use cotton batting it shrinks up a little and I like the way the quilt puckers.

Just pay attention to the colors ;-)

The new header is soooo sweet! I can't wait to see what you create for Christmas :) I think you already know (or are making) what I would like for christmas. I wish I was more handy...I'd love to make presents this year, but don't really have the skills :) I would like to know what the girls need/want :)

Love ya sis!

Katie, if you use a fixative in the wash with reds, etc. it will help-I think this looks helpful
