Summer Drives me Nuts

Summer drives me nuts, and here's why:

1. Heat
2. Heat
3. Heat

Because heat yields discomfort. Hot seat belt buckles on chubby baby thighs. Sweaty, sticky skin. Guilt for not wanting to go outside, even though it's nice and sunny (that carries over from my childhood... I'm such a homebody). Complete and utter confusion as to what I should or shouldn't wear. The overwhelming presence of immodesty in women that just sickens me, honestly.

Speaking of immodesty, I think I'll go off on a tangent. Why is it that hot weather instantly permits girls to dress like you-know-whats? I mean, if Muslim women can wear head-to-toe garments in public all through the summer, then why can't other women at least make more tasteful choices for their summer wardrobe? I mean, it's okay to wear shorts and a tank top, but be smart and wise about it. Sorry, that's a bit harsh. But it's not like dressing in less clothing makes us any more cooler. Sure, it might be a bit breezier for the first five minutes, but then you get all hot and sweaty anyway.

Anyways, summer always yields a bit of frustration for me. I miss my hot coffee. I hate spending $5 extra for a silly iced beverage that's 75% ICE. I don't like hot cars. I don't like sweat greasing up my hair (my 50% Italian blood really comes out in the summer... not that I actually TAN, I just get oily). Each day I look in my closet and am just bewildered at my "summer clothing" options. I just don't feel comfortable in shorts. Capris are okay, but I don't like to overdose on them, as they seem to scream "mom". Skirts are the greatest option, and I'd wear them everyday if they didn't make my thighs stick together (gross! TMI), and if I didn't have to shave my legs. GRRRRR. Why can't I just have cute, modest summer clothes that fit me well and don't completely scream "mom"?

I also need a haircut. But haircuts cost money, especially nice, stylish haircuts. Clothes and hair... such a dilemma. Summer really makes me wish I were a nun or something.

Okay, no more complaining. I'm done.

I'm going to try to do a summer clothing challenge, where I simplify my wardrobe with clothes that I actually like. Less is more. :D

Oh, yeah, I hear ya. It's just awful. I'm going for the long shorts this summer. You know the ones that go down to the knees. Those and skirts. And I loooove sundresses but that gets tricky now that I'm nursing a baby again. That poses a whole new set of issues.

Here's a tangent for you - last Sunday, we were getting ready for church, and I was complaining my normal rant about how I have nothing to wear, boo hoo, and Jason went into the manly "fix it" mode and started to take out clothes from my closet and was presenting them to me, like I had no idea what was in there. I find this so aggravating when he does this, even though it is kind of cute of him, and shot down every item he brought out. It sounded like this:

"How about this one?"

"No...that's like a size 2 and I just gave birth!"

"What about this?"

*Sigh* *roll eyes* "How the heck am I supposed to nurse the baby in that, pull my whole dress up during church!?"

So, yeah, I know. The heat, oh the stupid, blasted heat!!!

Yeah, no me gusto summer either. Too hot and it's suppose to be up to 101 here tomorrow! No fun. I've got summer clothes but I'm still working off the post baby pudge so I can't fit in a lot of my cooler clothes. Jason, (yup, yet another person married to a Jason) has told me I can wear his shorts (which is fine 'cos they come to my knees) but I don't 'cos then I have to shave, LoL! Stupid shaving...

I feel your pain Katie. I too think summer clothes are way to skimpy!!

Although, I have to admit, I think being a woman is so much better than being a man in the summer. I love that I can put on one of those long dresses that just hangs from my shoulders and nearly touches the floor, with a pair of sandlals and poor Dh has to wear a shirt and pants and, and, and.

And, then, I always really feel sorry for the priests on those hot days!

Xenia, this may be nuts, but look at this quote I found at http://www.bodypositive.com: "This is the all time best tip of all time for hot, sticky summer weather...when you wear a dress or skirt, simply pull on a pair of bike shorts underneath, this absorbs moisture and prevents chafing! It's so comfortable when you are out all day." FWIW. Your mileage may vary! :-)

As I read your post I decided I'd share with you what I do when I wear a dress or skirt, which to me is the BEST for hot summer days. Then I read the comments and the last one from kristinsdottir and she beat me to it! Yes, biker shorts!!!! They are modest (just in case they wind blows or your toddler decides to lift your skirt without warning) and they prevent the thigh problem. I wear them all the time and I wear leggings in the winter. I love them far better than nylons or tights!

Your baby is getting so big! I haven't read your blog in so long, it's good to catch up.
