Wow, I don't know what's more impossible, getting a chance to sit down and blog or making a pot of coffee and actually enjoying a hot cup within 3 hours time.

With that wonderful opening, a very happy Bright Week to you all! Christ is Risen!!! Truly He is Risen! I didn't intend to take a blogging hiatus during Lent, but it sort of turned out to be that way. Which was good, but I thought it high time to come back and tell you that I was killed by a rabid squirrel or anything.

In reading everyone else's recent blogging posts, I have become a bit jealous. It sounds like everyone had a WONDERFUL Pascha, and I am so happy (for you all) yet sad (for me, pity party) because I had to miss out on it this year. Vasilia had the beginnings of a cold all during Holy Week. I kind of ignored her symptoms, because she never gets too sick. I also had hoped that Holy Unction on Holy Wednesday night might help her condition improve a bit. Well, all during Holy Saturday she was a little sick but happy and dandy... so dandy, in fact, that she refused to NAP at all that day. Despite our MANY attempts to put her down.

Well, her listlessness just made her more crazed by 10 pm that night. Which made her symptoms worse. At first we had planned on having our in-laws over to watch her while we went to the Resurection service. But then we decided that she should come and experience her first Pascha. However, as mentioned before, by 10 pm she was in no condition to go anywhere. Dang. I was dressed and ready to go to church! Sweet Job reminded me that my sacrifice would not go unnoticed by God, which gave me some consolation. Then he trotted off with glee to church....

This was the second year I wasn't able to attend the Pascha service. Last year I had just given birth to my sweet Vasilia just two days beforehand. *sigh* I'd BETTER NOT have a baby within the 40 days of Pascha next year... I am determined to go.

So, that's my story. We did make it to the church picnic later that day. Vasilia was chipper, albeit with a runny nose, but at least she was rested. We kept her away from other babies. I brought a pasta salad to the potluck which must of tasted like mucous because it didn't get eaten. Oh well. That's the last time I use bleu cheese in anything.

Now I'm enjoying a slice of amazing cake that my friend Alexandra made, with a cup of (hot, and not even microwaved!!!) coffee.

My love to you all! I so enjoy your blogging company, and I'm so happy you all had good Paschas. Lord willing, one day we will all enjoy the greatest and grandest feast of feasts and celebration together in the age to come!

I think we need a new picture of Vasilia. I think that every time I've come to your blog and seen that sweet face--boy, she probably has changed a lot in these many weeks since you posted that!

Sorry you missed Pascha. I actually have been very lucky to have never missed one, in these 14 years we've been Orthodox. But I missed lots of Lenten services when my kids were born--they were both born right before Lent started. *However*, I did miss the canonization of Mother Maria of Paris that we'd gone to Paris specifically for, because Hibi was sick. That's just one of those sacrifices that our kids will thank us for when they're grown. Right? Right?

Indeed, He is Risen! I am so sorry you missed the Resurrection Liturgy, I'd pout too!

Glad you are back. Sorry you missed Pascha, but your husband was right, God won't forget your sweet sacrifice. What a good mommy you are! I'm glad little V. is feeling better too, and that you are able to enjoy some hot coffee and cake - that sounds very tempting to me right now! (I have a huge slabe of double chocolate cake staring at me each time I go into the kitchen.) :)

XK,

I'm sorry to hear that you missed it. It isn't the same, but you do have the entire Pentacostarion to celebrate. Take advantage of that if you can.

Great to hear from you again.

Christ is Risen!

OKay, so I didn't miss Pascha service but I may have painted a prettier picture in my blog than the way things were. Sometimes I just don't bother to give all the details. Johnny did fine during the Resurrection Service, however I got rather sick from just the whole pregnancy/not eating/being up too late combo. I had to go lie down in the car right before communion because I was on the verge of fainting. I am laughing now because I also failed to mention that the next day Johnny and I slept in the car while Evan attended the Agape Vespers. Ha! We do have to make a lot of sacrifices right now and as much as we want ourselves and our children at all the services sometimes it is just not do-able. I think the reason I forced myself to attend so many services is because I am afraid it will be even more difficult to go next year when I have two young ones.
Anyways, I hope you are having a blessed Bright Week. Oh, I agree with Elizabeth..let's see that sweet baby of yours!!

I was so glad to see new posts on here!!! The lenten silence was hard to bear :) I'm sorry you had to miss the Pascha service. I'm sure every mother has to do that once in her career, although my turn hasn't come yet.

Susan Sophia said something once about caring for children in church being an "honorable distraction"...I think the same Grace applies to missed services :)

Good to hear no rabid squirrels have gotten to you!!
