Last week, on Holy Friday (4/21) at 7:09 AM, our daughter Vasilia Josephine was born! She came into the world healthy and pink-- Glory to God! She is a beauty. We have been truly, truly blessed!
At birth, Vasilia weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and measured 19". Momma and Poppa are a bit sleep deprived. I'm adjusting to my new "jelly belly" and all of the adjustments (hormonally, physically, mentally) of being a new mom... I'm LOVING it! So challenging, but so worth it. Daddy Job is also taking things in stride, as he ties up school stuff (it's his FINALS WEEK!) and looks forward to graduating on Saturday. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend the ceremony with a one week old infant... but I haven't quite ruled it out just yet. We'll see.
I'm healing quite nicely. Fortunately I did not tear or have stitches, so I'm just a bit sore from all the muscular strain that 14 hours of labor incurred.
Last Thursday I woke up and was feeling a bit different. But I went to church anyways for the Vesperal Liturgy of St. Basil the Great (who is our daughter's patron saint!). During the service I was experiencing great discomfort and strong contractions, and I started to have suspicions that my water had broken (fun details, eh?). When I got home, I called the advice nurse and she recommended I get checked out at the hospital to see indeed if my water had broken. So, I grabbed my "labor bag" just in case and drove myself to the hospital. My contractions has subsided, so I had my doubts. But! Sure enough, the OB confirmed that my water had broken. I called Job and waited in triage for a while.
After 3 hours of being monitored, my contractions showed that labor hadn't progressed. Around 6 pm I was given pitocin, which helped jump start the process. Fortunately pitocin was the only drug I had to take... the rest of the birth was done naturally, with the amazing support of my husband and an angelic labor nurse and OB.
SO... that's the story. She's beautiful, and I can hear her crying now which means I have to go. Who knows if I'll get any sleep tonight. If you'd like to see pictures, please e-mail me personally at steveandkatie6505(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Yay! Welcome to the world little "Lili Jo"! That is just what I will be calling you, so you'd better get used to it. You look like a Lili :). May you grow and love and live and laugh, be wide awake to your world and the family and people who love you. And may you enjoy the wearing of strange hats, because you will certainly be receiving them ;). Much love to you little one, and give Mama and Papa tiny baby hugs.
