Countdown to Christmas: 23 days. Will she make it?
Horrible weather has kept our store's muzak signal from being in effect. Hence: no muzak, or music for that matter. This was received with relief at first... no more silly tunes will get stuck in my head now, right? Well, after a while of being muzak-free here in the store, it started to get a little eerie. Customers would come in and look around, and it suddenly felt like a library-- everyone felt they had to be really quite and walk on tiptoe.
So, I had a *brilliant* idea. Let's open the doors and let the music from outside trickle in (being an outdoor mall, it has speakers outside to make for a pleasant overall shopping experience). So, we opened the doors, and sure enough the "holiday" music was pumping gaily. Constantly.
So, I don't know what's worse, eerie silence or nonstop Bing Crosby. Do you know how many times I've heard that song that begins with the words "Frosted windowpanes..."
*sigh*
23 days in the counting. 23 days more of driving in horrid conditions to and from work. 23 more days of hauling my increasily pregnant self to work, where I am to be happy and accomadating and cheerful.
I know I have a lot to be thankful for, and that I shouldn't complain. Afterall, I have a loving husband, a so-far-so-good pregnancy, a job (period!), food in the fridge and most of my Christmas shopping done. I have my prayerbook, which provides me with endless opportunities to commune with our Father (which I often take for granted). And yet...
On the bright side of things, I am making progress on my little handsewing projects. I've gotten back into drinking coffee-- this time de-caf. It tastes good, and it provides me with some materialistic happiness and helps me get through the day.

Somehow, I don't know which song you mean?
Are you showing yet? EEek! How exciting!
Great post about what is important, and I love the new quote.
Also, on my blog, I have a link to Holy Apostles where you can sign up for the "Wisdom" list Father Thomas sends out, which includes the daily prologue reading.
I've started drinking decaf, too. What I do is take decaf instant coffee and mix it with a cup of warm milk and add just a little sugar... VOILA! a decaf. cafe au lait (which is a great way to get in more dairy for the baby, right:) I hear you on the "hauling my increasingly pregnant self"... i'm kind of starting to feel that way too. Was going to go and do some Christmas shopping today but decided to just stay home with Pavlos and get work done around the house... guess i'll just have to haul my pregnant self out some other day:)
The music really does make a "shopping difference"- even tho it is muzak- it is better than silence. I mean...we shouldn't fear silence- it just makes me feel weird to walk into a perfectly silent store.
Did the store get chilly with those open doors?......smart thinkin you little pregnant shopkeeper, you!!
I too know all about the decaf coffee.
You sound like a good employee :)
The black stuff is so delicous. I usually have a bit of the real stuff in the morning when aaron brews some...thankfully it doesn't seem to affect Juliana milk-wise, otherwise it's decaf all the way :)
Remind me again, when is your little one due...and are you of the finding out or waiting persuasion when it comes to gender?
Mimi,
Yeah, I think that's why this particular song drives me crazy, b/c I have no idea what the name of it is, and each year when I hear it I'm like, "Wait, I've NEVER heard this song before." It's not at the familiarity level of, say, Jingle Bells.
Thanks for the link to Holy Apostles! And I'm glad you like Elder Epiphianios' words over there to the right :)
Christina,
Cafe au laits are great alternatives (and cheaper!) to lattes. Yeah, I'm trying to avoid shopping, unless my shopping can be done at "Bridgeport Village" or online :) No malls for me, please (says she who works in one).
Anon/Mom,
Yeah silence=weirdness when it comes to stores. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of it :)
No, the store didn't get too cold with the doors open. It stays pretty warm.
Sara,
I enjoy black coffee with sugary pastries/desserts, otherwise I'm a wimp and need some sweetening/creamer :D I'm sure your husband brews a terrific cup!
We find out the sex of the baby TOMORROW (Monday, Dec. 5th). I'm so excited! I'm just too darn curious to wait (perhaps with future siblings we'll "wait" and be surprised).
Our gloworm is due on April 27th! Btw, is it your little girl's names day today? If so, MANY YEARS to her!
