A different kind of Sunday

Due to the weather, I had to miss church today. AAAH! I absolutely hate missing church, especially on Sundays. But, God's will, not mine. The weather this morning was not entirely safe to drive in (icy roads, plus we live 1/2 an hour away from church).

So Job and I stayed behind. We read prayers in front of our "portable altar," which is brought to any empty, vacant room or space we can find in this house I share with four other roommates. It works. It certainly did not replace church itself, but it was the best we could do.

Afterwards we went to a local, rather nice restaurant to use a gift certificate we had recieved for Christmas (I didn't want to cook...hehehe). I got a fatty, greasy omelette, and it was good. Afterwards we went for a walk, along with my friend and roommate Megan. We walked several blocks to his grandma's home, which brightened her day by a million watts. We chatted and listened to stories, some repeats and some new. Then we walked home, and on the way visited another friend of ours.

It felt good to get outside and walk off that huge omelette. Well, whether or not I walked it off completely I don't know. It was also nice to talk with Job and Megan, and visit others while we were at it. We got "roses in our cheeks" as my mom would say, our faces red from the chilly January air.

And now I'm here... at home. Feels like it's Saturday instead of Sunday... I'm hoping that my missing Liturgy doesn't cripple the rest of the week *sigh.* But God is good, and He is merciful.
I will read some from Fr. Seraphim Rose, hopefully. I always walk away edified from reading that book :) This week I hope to get some bridal planning underway (I will search high and low for a dress that is "nursing" appropriate, sister Carrie! No need to fret), and speaking of, I'm hoping to become an aunt sometime this week...! C'mon little baby, I know it's cold out here, but we wanna meet you!

ART: the give and the take
Oh, and on Friday I had a little art show. The reception attendees consisted of roughly 8 friends, including Job... Not a "success" by any means, but then again I've always preferred small groups, so I didn't mind. Also, I didn't do much publicity stuff, I feel weird "selling myself." Which doesn't work too well when you are hoping to sell some art. I tried to price them all nicely, but it seems like no matter how low you price them, it's never ideal enough. People either think you're charging too much, or you're underselling your work, and therefore an inexperienced novice who lacks artistic confidence, and therefore worthless. I have many frustrations when it comes to art... the only thing I end up liking is the act of creation itself. Then it either gets a)"claimed" by my parents b) placed in an art show where it receives a substantial amount of praise but little "buying" interest c) stashed in the nooks and crannies of my room, where it is forgotten until Christmas, when I decide to give it to a friend.

We didn't make it to church, either. When ODOT says you need chains to drive on I-5, that's when we stay home. It actually wasn't too bad here in Vancouver, we are a little warmer than Portland:) We did prayers at home and then went to my parents house to watch football and have lunch (plus, they have a really awesome woodstove and our house is barely heated so we got to stay toasty warm). This weekend seemed to be so long...

ps. i would love to see your art:)
