10 minute Power Blog!

I have ten minutes....

  • Today is absolutely gorgeous! It's quite nippy, but the sun is bright, casting sharp, defined wintry shadows on the world... or, at least, my world. I can remember last year, at this time there was snow on the ground, and the sun was just as piercing. Last year when our parish went out to a "blessing of the waters" service out at the Willamette river, it proved to be a very, very lovely scene...
  • Theophany: one of my favorite feasts. It marks the 3rd year anniversary of my chrismation (and the 2nd anniversary of Job's first-ever experience with an Orthodox Liturgy). God is good! And yet, there is so much work that my soul must undergo... :)
  • His Emminence Bishop Anthony reposed on Christmas Day... although we lose a dynamic spiritual leader, it's hard to be sad about such a beautiful, Christian ending to a strong, Christ-filled life! He has big shoes to fill... may we all pray for the individual who will take Bishop Anthony's place.
  • My sweet Job got me the biography of Fr. Seraphim Rose... I'm enjoying it immensely!
  • With some Christmas money, I splurged on the Monks of Valaam CD. It's absolutely beautiful--I highly recommend it! I also bought two new coat lapel pins for my new coat: one of St. Xenia (yay!) and one of St. John Maximovich (yay!). My new coat is a three-in-one coat, so I put one pin on my inner, zip-out fleece, and one of my outer shell. Vital information, I know ;)
  • Despite the fun new gifts, I realize that the more I get, the more I get the "GIMMES." Money literally burns a hole in my pocket; once I get some spending money, my mind goes crazy: "What should I buy????!!!!" Hmm... the more I get, the more I want. That's NOT a good thing...
  • Speaking of GIMMES... yesterday Job and I registered at Bed, Bath and Beyond. The guy who helped us register kept encouraging us to choose things to help us live a comfortable, luxurious life. Hmm.... I have no problem with living responsibly and having what we need. Afterall, you only get married once, and there's no harm in registering for essentials... maybe some "extras" too. After 3+ hours of searching and "beeping" products all over the store, we brought our hefty list to the registry guy. I think he was impressed that we managed to get all of the essentials in *only* three hours (ha!), but he again encouraged us to return so that we could triple our already embarrassingly extensive list....! Um... no thanks. Oh, the comforts of this world are fleeting indeed...
  • Well, I've surpassed my 10 minute ideal. Now I have to go back to work. Hope your New Year has gotten off to an okay start :)

ooh, the fun of registering. Paul hated it. When my sister got married (which was ten years ago), I helped her register. We had to write all the barcodes on this piece of paper. Yuck. The only thing that Paul enjoyed about registering was the little scanner. In fact, when we finished, I remember looking at the printout thinking, "we didn't register for that"... it was all Paul getting a little too carried away with the scanner:) And even though registering can seem to be such a "greedy" thing to do (here's what I want and you better get it for me), in the end (and after having gone to hundreds of weddings) it makes shopping for a gift easier (at least, I find it easier to shop off of a registry).
