Should it be the "Every-Other Daily Grab Bag?"

Counting down the minutes…

Well, summer is drawing to a quiet close. Today is my last day of work, here at my summer job. What exactly did I do for work this summer? Good question. My title, or at least the title I applied for, was “writer.” Ah, the very title itself intrigued me. So, I applied to be a “writer” for George Fox University’s Communications Dept. I interviewed, and was given the part-time position. Looking back, aside from three articles that were published in the University’s quarterly magazine, the only significant day-in and day-out writing I did was for ‘The Daily Grab Bag.’ Sad, but true.

This burning in my heart ain’t the Holy Spirit!

Maybe it’s work burnout, but I’ve been having a few health problems as of late. Nothing too serious (well, I’ll leave that for the doc to decide on Monday), just some chest pains. Now, chest pain probably sounds alarming… but I’ve been doing some internet research, and because of some additional symptoms, I think I’ve got acid reflux disease or something. My coffee intake hit its highest this summer: almost a cup a day (hmm… any connection between my dull job and my need for caffeine?).
A cup a day might not seem like much, but I really think the acid in the hot coffee has done a bit of damage on my esophagus. Yesterday I skipped my daily cup, and didn’t experience any chest pain. Crazy. As much as I’d hate to give up coffee, I think that acid reflux would be the least of my worries compared to all of the heart problems that chest pain could insinuate.

Fall, please come quick!

The constant heat is really getting to me. I should be thanking God for all things… but I’m too busy thinking ahead to cozy afternoons inside, fresh and clean, rain-soaked air, and being able to drive in my car without getting stuck to the seat with sweat. Sick. However… I do not look forward to driving on wet roads with streamlines of rain blurring my driving vision.

Back to the countdown…

Hmm. T-minus 3 hours to go until work is OVER for the summer! You know… I think I’m going to further my acid-reflux research by getting a celebratory “end of work!” latte. This will be my last experiment, as it should either confirm or disprove my cause for chest pain… Afterall, my research must be as thorough as possible… *wink*

Perhaps I’ll just have to order a shot of Mylanta or Maalox with my espresso?

Katie,

Those of us blessed with Type A blood are most prone to digestive and stomach ailments. (I should know!)

If you've really been hitting the pot (coffee that is!) lately, then cutting back and drinking more water might really do the trick. Stress (even the good kind...like getting engaged!) can also trigger acid-refulx disease.

And you know what: I can't wait for the hot days to be over too!
