Saturday in the park (kind of)

"To those who are in great sorrow..."

Today, Deacon Innocent took some of us to downtown Portland where we distributed sack lunches to the homeless. This was my first time going, although it's been a tradition for the past several years, and usually takes place two other times during the year (typically on Holy Friday and during the Nativity Fast). This time around there was a small group of people that went, and it was a very special experience. Certainly a worthy endeavour for an otherwise lazy Saturday :)

Check out my skills!

To my fellow artists and friends: Steve has scanned some of my art and has placed it on his website! Please feel free to take a look at our humble achievement :) At the moment the pictures are lacking some much-needed descriptions (i.e. title, medium, size, date, price for anyone interested), so please don't hesitate to comment or e-mail me with any questions you might have about a particular "drooing." Most of what you'll see are watercolors and random pen and ink/marker doodles. I'm hoping there will be an opportunity to add some of my more recent acrylic paintings :) Hope you likey!

Well, that about wraps it up for a weekend update! Nothing much... same old struggles, same old joys :) I hope my Orthodox brothers and sisters had a blessed celebration of the Transfiguration feast! Take care everyone.

First of all, I didn't think anyone but my three year old son used the word "likey" - which has become part of my family and friend's normal vocabulary. People that don't know us must think we are the strangest folks out there.

I just had an opportunity to check out your art 'slide shows'...you have a wonderful handle on colors! I loved the barn watercolors, the still lifes and the expressions of the people that you drew/painted. I've always wanted to watercolor, but it just looks so difficult. I'm used to hiding mistakes and problems under a huge drop of acrylic paint!

Have you ever used salt in your watercolor paintings? That looks like fun...if I ever get brave enough to do it.

I was hoping you'd check out the website, seeing that you're my fellow artist blogger :D I'm glad you were able to!
I was introduced to watercolors at a very young age: I started taking little week-long classes when I was in the 4th or 5th grade. So, fortunately I was able to grasp the technique (somewhat, at least!) early on and stick with it.
I have tried the salt technique-- very cool effects! I haven't done it for a while, but you're mentioning it has inspired me to try it again. :)
Thanks for your comment, Nino!
