Holey knees! All of my jeans eventually grow very thin in the knees, and teeny little holes grow into large, unsightly ones. My day-to-day "uniform" calls for a pair of ill-fitting-but-whatever-jeans, with or without holes. My patience for shopping in a conventional setting is quite LOW. Get me in, get me out: I don't want to try ANYTHING ON! Even at thrift stores: I'll dally a little longer, but my aversion to the dressing room is just as strong there (if not stronger, for obvious reasons). So I usually scan the rows of jeans, and grab a pair of straight leg size 6 Old Navy or Gap jeans that aren't in a totally dated color, and I scram. But now that I've had 3 kids, I have to watch for "Low Waist" and "Super Low Waist" to avoid the "Moon rising over the hillside" effect. And when, exactly, did Goodwill prices get so expensive? I know I can be cheap, but when I start comparing used clothes prices to clearance rack prices, you have to wonder...I've sewn lots of nice dresses. I've sewn a few blouses that I really like. I even "bartered" with a friend and got a beautiful new, hand-knit cardigan out of the deal. But what good are any of these carefully made clothes if they're paired with terrible, holy jeans? Hmm. So it got me thinking; maybe it's time to venture into the world of pants, or trousers, to be exact?
So I have obtained a new pattern (Burda 8488--sort of different from my style, but after seeing them often on a blog I like, they've really grown on me), and I'm gonna give it a shot! Fabric Depot is having a big sale with lots of discounted fabric, so I chose this interested denim-ish with a faint plaid print mystery fabric. They won't be jeans, necessarily, but I'm more of a casual, wide-leg trousers look. I haven't worn "slacks" or "trousers" since the 7th grade, when I'd buy polyester pants from the men's section at Salvation Army *shudder*. They were, however, very comfortable and easy to wear.
And since I've always, always wanted a pair of flannel-lined pants for fall and winter, I plan to line them with that floral, flannel material you see above. If they turn out well, I'll definitely make more!
Should be fun! I'll give it a go!
