Today was Italian day. I enjoyed some pannettone while drinking espresso. I enjoyed some sparkling mineral water (which I pretended was from the some sparkling spring in Northern Italy). Had leftover pizza. Made chicken tetrazzini for dinner... I don't know if that's actually "Italian cuisine," but it does have spaghetti noodles in it, and it does have an Italian-sounding name.
Wait! Today something VERY BIG happened! Vasi drew her first smiley face! She even added arms and legs (attached to the head, of course), but it was a special moment sitting with her at the table and drawing, making discoveries with crayons and paper. I'm quite a proud Mama, as you can see.
Over the weekend, my newest niece was born!!!! She was a heaping 8 lbs. 15.5 oz! Follow the link, and perhaps my sister will update her blog and share more information, if she chooses. I wish I could be there, but I am glad that Mama and Daddy get some time to bond with their little beauty without an insane auntie (that'd be me) hovering about! :D hehehe. Boy, I love babies.
A few weeks ago I won a Blockbuster gift card at a gift exchange. Friday night we rented 'Mamma Mia', which is a pretty good movie. It has introduced us to many songs that I never knew ABBA even sang! In fact, I had no idea that ABBA was such a successful band. Seriously, I thought they were just a one-hit wonder band with 'Dancing Queen.' I admit (go ahead, groan with disgust!), I've been enjoying 'you tubing' their music videos. Gotta love the '70s technology and "special effects." Those Swedes can sing! Um... not as good at dancing, but hey, no big deal :D So yeah, I've been listening to ABBA and eating Italian food-- I guess I'm celebrating my heritage? :D
This week I have the opportunity to submit something to the Alumni art show at my ol' college. I've done a lot of art since I graduated, but nothing really stands out as "impressive tour-de-force". A lot of the work I did in college was more sophisticated and "artsy", whereas lately I've been doing tons of illustrative, expressive, happy stuff. Well, I have to figure something out... OR I can always crank out something last minute? But something about that seems a bit deceiving... I don't know. It will be fun to see/hang out with former classmates, though.
On another note, I'm re-reading 'St. Nektarios: The Saint of Our Century" by Sotos Chondropoulos. I read it about 7 (!) years ago when I was a catechumen. Seems like yesterday, seriously... But I forgot so much about St. Nektarios, and it's been so great to re-read his story. If you have access to this book, I can't recommend it enough! It is so nice to read something so uplifting, especially in these increasingly difficult times.
Okay... so I've covered art, gluttony, ABBA and St. Nektarios. Yep! My life in a nutshell. Hope you're all well! May God's good grace surround you.

Oh sigh. Mine too! Congratulations to you on being a new auntie again, and to Vasi for the drawing skills. I so wonder where she gets that :)
We just watched mamma mia. Well, I watched it, Paul slept through it. One of the few records my mom would let us listen to when we were kids was an ABBA album. my sister and I would put on lip synch shows to ABBA all the time:)
And you definitely can't go wrong reading about St. Nektarios.
Congrats on being an aunt again! I know that I had to get up to Seattle to see my newest niece when the first opportunity presented itself.
I want to see that too. We just saw "Wall-e"...I really enjoyed it! I'd like to see "Benjamin Button," but I'll wait until it's out on DVD.
I checked out your sister's blog...but no baby pics (by the way your link in wrong, you added a "dash" the right one is in the sidebar).
Hello Katie! I actually convinced my parents to take me to see ABBA in concert in the early 80's (80-81?)-we were so far back that they looked like dolls! lol Girls actually came dressed like the female members of the band! haha. It seems funny now, but we were really into the Swedish Pop back then...check out A-teens, they are a young Swedish Pop band that Christina introduced me to. I think she has all my ABBA records (5?6?) as well ;)
You have some great art-the one of the fields across from your parents, the girl and her grandmother, the b x w of the girl on the wall of your living room (or is that from college?)...I am sure what ever you submit would be great! (the blue bird?)
I keep looking for updates as well, it was so much fun to get text messages and pictures from your dad...missing all those squeezable moments with great nieces ...
Will have to check out the book sometime!
Take care,
Much love,
Aunt Helen
Congrats on being an auntie! I love ABBA as well, even though they are so not my generation.
When I read your little paragraph about art, I thought it would be nice to see how your style has changed over time into happier and more expressive themes. Maybe you should just go with that for the showing, too, IMHO :)
And I just pulled the St. Nektarios book off my bookshelf over break to take with me to college to read this semester!
