Okay, when I mentioned in my last post that I'd abandoned all household chores for the sake of craftiness, I was exaggerating. I tried to "not care," but I'd wind up waking up at 3 am, washing dishes and cleaning up fabric scraps off of the floor. I just don't like leaving the kitchen and dining room in utter chaos. When I do, little friendly ants arrive (armies of them), feasting on my negligence. So no, it just can't happen.

In fact, I want to get up and do crafts now, but I'm so tired. I should just go to bed.

We put up our Christmas tree tonight! It is lovely. We got to "upgrade" to a 6-footer for the first time in our married life :D Now that we have the space, it's fun to have a big one. It reminds me so much of our Christmas tree growing up, minus the colored twinkling lights and the years' worth of homemade ornaments from grade school, etc. Our lights are white (maybe next year I'll get colored... the more color the better, I say) and our grown-up tree is a bit bare since our ornament collection was fit for a 4-foot tree. No doubt, our collection will expand gradually year by year, as my little "elves" bring home treasures--creations of glitter, cardstock, cotton balls, construction paper, yarn.... To me, a happy tree is one overflowing with homemade and mismatched memories.

Lately I've been doing a little dog-searching. I'm trying to do some breed research and see what animals are available in the local shelters, etc. I have always wanted a dog... but I don't want to be unrealistic. Who knows! The right pooch for us just might be out there. As God wills!

The family is doing well! No word yet on Job's test score.... For him to pass is all I really want for Christmas :) Vasi is... well... two, and a half. She can be bit trying at times.... but I love her so much. I'm just learning as I go, with the help of God. How can parenthood be such a down and dirty, humbling journey? Sometimes I feel like it's so easy to "diagnose" kids, to "brand" or "label", but at the end of the day I know that I just need more patience and grace and love. As my late grandfather Gator once told me in regards to raising children: "Just love'em!"

Oh, and remember back in January when I made the 2008 resolution to grow my hair out? Well, so far so good. I've had two little trims. I've entertained thoughts of cutting it in the upcoming new year... but then I might just deign 2009 as another year for hair growth. You know, see how long it'll get. It's kinda fun. :)

I hope you are having a blessed Advent! Good strength to you all! +

Andrei is a two-and-a-half-year-old wuzel now too. He is such a handful and has some new habits (a phase I hope!) which are less-than-pleasing to his parents. I agree you just have to have patience and love, and most of all I think you have to be a good example. I know of several things that Andrei does that I'm pretty sure he gleaned and modified from watching Dragos and me. I guess we all have to work on our bad habits together. And pray! That is indispensable. Wow, I'm sure full of advise today. I wish I would follow the advise I'm giving...

Take care!

We just finally put our tree up yesterday, and all our decorations. I wanted to make sure it was done before hubby went out of town.

I haven't gotten my hair cut in over a year. Not even a trim, but that's only because I'm lazy about it and just don't really care. LOL I really should get it done, especially with this dry winter weather and all the static!

yeah, petros is 2 1/2. i know exactly what you are talking about. Steve and i have spent some quality time in the narthex during liturgy with vasi and petrosy (as she calls him).
maybe we should light a bunch of candles while we are in the narthex and maybe their behavior will improve?!?!

So agree, "just love them" is simple yet perfect advice.
Your hair looks fab, and continued prayers for Job.

I'm feeling quite old- because I remember when our first trees were so sparsely decorated- and now I have many ornaments to spare- your welcome to any of them!
I always love putting out the paper Christmas Tree you made in Mrs. Sharples' class- it's looking worn but I can't throw it away!!
I'll have to head to Newberg soon to see your glowing tree in the window!!
Love

Joey is part corgi and part bassett-

Love the St Lucia illustrations!

We made the leap into puppy parenthood this summer and have had an absolute blast. We got a wirehaired dachshund who had been raised in a home with 4 kids - he's very sweet.

Beautiful St. Lucia drawings and watercolours...I don't know much about her, so I'm going to look it up! We're Old Calendar, so I'll still be ahead.
