Today I woke up to the grayest skies I've seen for quite some time. Driving to work, I couldn't help but wonder if Portland was due for a hurricane or something (not sure if that's possible, though). But I think it's just been a long while since it's rained like this. Or at least since I've had to drive in this kind of weather. It's a bit unnerving, now that I drive a stick shift AND am carrying a child. I just have to keep reminding myself that I'm an Oregonian through and through, and that I've been driving in pools of water for seven years now. No problem right? But no matter how confident I feel about my driving abilities, that's not going to keep someone else from plowing into me. Well, I'll just keep praying and crossing myself for safe measure while I drive. Rain season/winter is the only time I wish I had one of these (or at least something with 4WD).
I'm at work right now, and being that the store is in an outdoor mall, I have my doubts as to whether or anyone will be coming in soon. I've noticed a few people walk by, weilding umbrellas and hot cups of coffee. They must be the rain-lovers, the diehard Oregonians. Maybe their like me, and they like the solace that a rainy day can bring. Although I can't say it would be good for business, I wouldn't mind if nobody came in to the store. I'm liking this solitude... blogging... listening to classical music.
Things I'm finding useful during pregnancy:
IZZE sparkling juice
(it's great if you're like me and trying to avoid sugary sodas, being that it's 100% fruit juice and sparkling water. It gives you the bubbly sweetness you crave, but without the chemicals and additives)
Oil from the vigil lamp of St. John Maximovitch. My sister anointed her belly with it each day when she was pregnant, and I'm trying to get into the habit as well, now that I have some. Thank you Agape from Logos Bookstore :)
Yogurt. No links necessary. Tastes great, I could eat it all day. Although buying one big vat of vanilla yogurt is cheaper, I enjoy the little fruity flavored cups so much more.
What to Expect When You're Expecting. I'm sure there are better books out there, but I don't want to overload myself with reading materials, b/c I think I could easily go crazy with it all. But this book has been a helpful, comprehensive guide these past 2 months. If you ever want a copy, just go to Goodwill and--guaranteed-- there'll be 30 used copies for, like $2.
Dawn's latest photos on her photo blog. No, it doesn't really have anything to do with being pregnant, but it did brighten my day :) Maybe it will bring a smile to your face too.
Well, I should go. People are starting to come into the shop. There's one customer in here, a girl about 13 or so. Um... shouldn't you be in school? :)
Adios!

Yeah for Izze!
When would be a good evening to come and visit you?
I'm going to have to try izze because i am getting so tired of drinking water:)
sweet post.
i like izze too, yay.
my God-mother gave birth back in april. she had a book called "eating expectantly" that was very helpful.
i'm happy for smiles :)
Espana,
Monday evening? Hmmm?
Christina,
Izze is a great choice. I hope you find some soon and enjoy it immensely. May I recommend the sparkling clementine or the sparkling blackberry? :)
Oh, and about the coffee addiction-- it died a quick death once that little purple line appeared on my h.p.t. Yeah, all of those things I whined about trying to quit three months ago (caffeine, late nights, etc.) are strangely coming into action now that I actually have to take care of myself.
Now that doesn't mean I don't daydream about coffee... even though I don't even really want it (now THAT'S weird). I do look forward to enjoying a leisurely latte one day in the distant future :)
Dawn,
Thank you for the book recommendation! The book I'm reading "What to Expect..." seems a bit rigid on the ultra-healthy side, and I'd be curious to see what another book's perspective is (I'm still holding out for a physician-approved pure junk food diet... jk:D). I'll look for it at the library, though, thank you!
Maybe it wasn't a Portland hurricane, but the people who lived through it thought it was: the Columbus Day Storm, October 12, 1962.
