Happy Friday and the cosmic kool-aid bus ride

It's Friday... and I haven't written a blog post for a long time. I only have time today for some brief thoughts. It will be a very hodge-podge blog, if you will.

Random thoughts of mine... I'd love to hear your thoughts on them too:
  • For starters, I still need to do prayers and shower for today... who knows if either will happen.

  • I now have a job cleaning a professor's house once a week. Pay is pretty good; it will help to have a little extra cushion each month.

  • The days are getting shorter... I think the end is near. I now relish those agonizingly long classes, because that's the only time that time really seems to stand still for a little while. Most of the time, it just flies by at an unsettling pace!

  • There comes a time in life when you no longer are allowed to have fun. You're too old, get over it! That's at least how I feel. Responsibilities outweigh free time opportunities. And it would be be just fine with me if it didn't seem like the rest of society was out have a constant party. Not that I want a constant party... it just seems so black and white. I'm learning, in my "old age" just what is means to not be of this world. It' s one of those tangible crosses to carry, I guess.

  • Um... classes are going okay, I think. I'm always a paper behind though, it seems.

  • Wedding plans have pretty much been on hold since school started. I'm sure I'm driving my mom nuts with my disorganization. Actually, STeve and I are getting our engagement pictures taken tomorrow, compliments of Karl's brother who is a professional photographer. Should be fun!

  • Today Father is coming to do a house blessing. Well, Lord willing. If nothing else mroe urgent arises for him, and it just might happen :) I dunno if any of my roommates will be coming, though... I don't know if anyone will be coming. Job has class during that time, and there aren't too many Orthodox friends around here. Oh well! If it's just me and Father, that's fine. At least the house will be blessed, so no spooky ghosts will come ;)

  • I'm starting a new series of paintings. It's in a different style (think Ben Shahn or Ezra Jack Keats), and I'm exploring those feelings that are typically very childish that never really seem to dissipate in our age. So far I've done one on exclusion (feeling excluded by other friends) and jealousy. I'm working on a body of work for my senior thesis show.

  • I have to go now. I need to pick up some fresh basil for my hypothetical house blessing today. I also need to get some tofu and other various goods. Errands, errands, errands!

I'm now opening up the floor to your comments or thoughts... :D hehehe. God bless!

Laura,
Well it's nice to know that fun days are on the horizon :) Steve and I ended up having fun last night (we went to a discussion group and then watched "Waiting for Guffman"), so the funnest times are always unplanned it seems.

Karl,
Prayer in the shower, eh? Hmm... that might be kinda weird. But I know that it is done :)

Katie,

There is a funny story from the desert fathers about this (sort of):

Two monks ask their elder a question: the first asks, "Is it permissible to tend to "nature's business" while praying?"

"No," answers the elder, "it is not permissible to do anything but concentrate while praying."

The second monk asks, "Is it permissible to pray while taking care of nature's call?" "Yes," answers the elder, with a smile, "it is always permissible to pray."

I do prayers in the shows sometimes. It's nice because nobody can bother you and it forces you to memorize and pay attention to what your saying :)
