For the first time all summer I have some solo time. Tonight the family is away, and Job's at his home. These days the only alone time I have is in my car, commuting to and from work, etc. But even then I'm too precoccupied with beating traffic and getting to work on time-- not exactly a method of "unwinding" if you ask me. Even when I'm by myself at home, the dog is here to keep me company, but even he's got a hot date tonight. Hehehe.
Oh well, this alone time is probably more needed than I realize. Every weekend for the past 3 months have seemingly been filled to the brim with family events, church, holiday gatherings, weddings and, oh yeah, more church :D
So I guess I'll use this time to update the ol' blog, read, paint, take a stab at writing poetry again or a story. You know, kick back a couple of ginger ales, maybe even waste a small portion of my life and pop in a chick flick ;) We'll see.
As for Carice's friend Joanne, her battle with cancer ended a few days ago. Even though I didn't know her, and even though she wasn't Orthodox, I will venture to say Memory Eternal.

I hope the evening goes well for you and I will pray for Joanne.
Your Job :)
Greetings from California - from the grounds of St. Seraphim Orthodox Church in Santa Rosa! I found your profile after starting a new blog and accidentally clicking on the 'Eastern Orthodoxy' part of my profile. I noticed that you're a painter. I am too - although I'm still a beginner and I only work in Acrylics at the moment. Can you write about your paintings as well as your life and Faith? Just curious - are you into Iconography as an artist or as a worshipper (or both)?
Nino,
Sure, I'll have to work on a post about painting :) Thanks for your comment, it's always fun to find other folks with similar interests :D
(Hmm... Santa Rosa... do you know a girl named Rachel Lewis?)
XK
Yes! The Lewis family -- they live down the street from us (we live on the church site). Rachel is a beautiful young woman - I think the last time I talked to her she was in Fulton...I'll have to ask Macrina where she is now. Did you go to school with her or meet her on a retreat? What a small world within Orthodoxy!
Nino,
Actually, I met Rachel and her father Christopher on campus last spring. They were touring George Fox University, and I ran across them in the art building :) I actually wrote about the surprise encounter in part 3 of my June 23rd entry entitled, "Famous People, New Friends and a Post-Paschal Blessing" (or something along those lines). Please tell the Lewis' hello from "Katie from George Fox" :)
You're absolutely right, with Orthodoxy, it is a small and close-knit world!
:D
